If you are not a creative person, the idea of interior design can be a little overwhelming, especially when it’s your own home that you need to redesign. If you are not a very creative person, it may be even more stressful. Don’t worry if design isn’t your strong suit. There are so many tools that you can find and utilize which will help you to make your space exactly the way you want it. Here are 5 easy design tips for non-creative folks.

Draw Inspirations From Others

Whenever you go into anyone’s home whether it is a friend, a family member, or a client for work, you should take note of the design choices they have made in the various areas of their home. For example, if you are planning on choosing a living room design for your own home and you notice that someone’s living room feels especially calming and homey to you, you should take note of the choices they have made with their furniture, paint colors, art on their walls, etc. You can then recreate the same type of vibe in your own home, but with a touch of your own personality.

Forget About The Rules

Don’t worry about any interior design “rules” you may have heard of. Design is a form of art, and in art there are no rules! Do what comes naturally to you or what you think looks best. If you don’t have a creative eye and are trying to design a space for other people to enjoy, like a business for example, it may make sense for you to get some help with the process. But if it’s your own home and you’re the one living there, do whatever you want!

Do Some Research

Researching ideas of what to do in a space of a specific shape or size, colors that go well together, or anything else, is a great idea if you feel that you don’t have the eye for design. There is a ton of information and photos available online for you to look at if you feel stuck when designing any of the rooms in your home. If you feel completely lost, you can even hire someone as your interior designer and they will literally do all of the work for you.

Plan Ahead

Planning the design of any space out ahead of time before you jump in and do it will serve you well, especially if you’re nervous about designing. Having a well laid-out plan will make it so that you know what to expect in terms of cost, difficulty, and timeline.

Home design doesn’t always have to be a stressful experience, and even if you’re not a creative person, it can be a lot of fun! Just remember to get inspired, step outside the box, do your research, and plan ahead, and you will be well on your way to a beautifully designed home.
